OK, so a few years back I had a total failure of my PC hard drives and had to do disaster recovery to get my data back. You know that really sinking feeling you get when you've lost your Turbo-Tax data for 7 years and all of your Quicken and gigs and gigs of your favorite MP3's. That's when I found a company called Runtime.org that sold a product called GetDataBack. Great software if you have a disaster recovery issue. They also give away a backup program called DriveImage XML that will make an image of your PC disk drives to removable media like USB disk drives. I had another disk drive fail on me and thanks to this software, I was able to recover my data (it was a bit out of date -- but that's my fault since I didn't do a more recent backup!) after putting in a new drive. The nice thing is that you can also create a batch file with parameters to have a scheduled backup (we learn from our mistakes!) so that you can have a fairly current backup.
Now, this is not a great day-to-day backup program, but if you need to make an image of that new laptop or you have a drive that has items on it that rarely changes (all of your MP3's or video files), then this is your program. Save to an external drive and then burn it off to DVD.

If it's tech related...I'll post it here. Lotus Notes/Domino, AS400 or iSeries, PC's, PDA's, iPods, Android -- Whatever.
